Membership is open to all men. We aim to provide an environment of mateship and socialisation. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skills and knowledge. Each week we host a BBQ Lunch for members for a nominal amount.
Members cover a wide range of skills from tradesmen including electricians, carpenters, plumbers, builders and motor mechanics, farmers, administrators, journalists, and photographers.
All are happy to share their experiences with newcomers.
The current membership fee is $55 (including insurance) although no-one is excluded because of financial hardship.
The Shed also runs woodwork and basic skills classes for women, and has a Ladies’ Day in the workshop every Tuesday.
At the completion of the induction and introductory woodworking project you are invited to apply for associate membership. Associates (Ladies) day is Tuesday and all tools in the workshop are available after safety induction on relevant tools.
The Shed is well equipped with a wide variety of woodworking and metal working equipment including a CO2 laser engraver.
There is also a lunchroom/meeting room and a library and media room, and WiFi internet access throughout the Shed.
All members, after undergoing a mandatory safety induction, have access to the workshop.
Kyneton Men’s Shed is one of the nation’s oldest, and as such it has a rich and proud heritage of helping men from all walks of life, often giving them a genuine sense of purpose after retirement.
The doors opened in 2001, and began operating under the auspices of Cobaw Community Health with the objective of assist men’s health and wellbeing.
In September 2014 the Shed registered its name as Kyneton Men’s Shed Incorporated - a decision welcomed by Cobaw, which agreed to support the transition to independence by enabling the men to remain in the existing shed until June 2017.
In 2019 the Shed - following four years of substantial fund-raising - built and moved into its new premises, at 2 Riverwalk Boulevard, Kyneton, where it stands today.
